Are Apple working on a real, hold in the hand ibook? Well we have put all the rumours and pieces of information together and with a tip from a usually reliable source we think the answer is YES.
Back in October our advisers told us that Apple had taken receipt of quite a number of 7.85 inch screens with 1024x768 resolution. It was rumoured at that time Apple was thinking about a smaller size ipad to compete with Samsungs Galaxy Tab and other smaller form factor tablets. Then came the new Newsstand app, with all its (new) magazines easily downloaded.
Now we have had the Amazon Fire, Jeff Bezo's seemingly ideal size color ebook.
We have already heard from Steve Jobs on the matter. He said "The reason we [won't] make a 7-inch tablet isn't because we don't want to hit that price point, it's because we think the screen is too small to express the software," plus "As a software driven company we think about the software strategies first."
So would Apple take on Amazon or is it more likely that they would produce a new type of device altogether. That's what Apple does and usually does it best.
Our adviser tells us that Apple's Jonny Ives is actually doing that right now. So we have mocked up a couple of pictures for you (sorry about the quality) but they do give you the idea. A book sized ibook that will fit in your handbag or jacket pocket that unfolds to offer a true double page (magical) reading experience and also a mini netbook for surfing and email.
We can't wait!
